my city is still breathing back in the saddle |
Tuesday, April 29, 2003 allright, I"m back. exams are done and I just have one minor thing to do and then I'm done for the semester. yay yay yay!! so I'll post more now, I might even change the poll, as I proably should. I wrote my last exam yesterday. it was hella long, I took the whole 2 hours, and I never take the whole 2 hours to write exams so I was shocked with myself, and the length of it. everyone in the room took the whole time, so I know it wasn't just me... anyhow, I have to get going with my day...... posted by kim | 11:01 a.m.| (0) comments Wednesday, April 23, 2003

You don't asocciate with "sophisticate" barbie and never "nsync #1 fan" barbie, but you know who your friends are and you do what you want. Plus, you have a kick ass motorcycle." And I was only 50% bitch last time I took the bitch test.. who would have thought..... posted by kim | 2:15 p.m.| (0) comments Tuesday, April 22, 2003 all right, I haven't posted for a while, sorry, I've been all into working on papers, which are now all but finished and I'm very happy with them! nothing much has gone on for excitement in my life lately aside from that. Although it appears the Iraqi war is apparently over, I found this link to a great anti-Bush song by the German hip hop band Blumentopf called Danke Mr. Bush. Check it out if you speak German. If not, they lyrics are also available on the page so try running them through the Google Translator if you so desire. Anyhow, I must go and meet my study group, might just post later tonight. posted by kim | 9:30 a.m.| (0) comments Friday, April 11, 2003 It was a good day. I went out with my friend Laura (who I don't get to see often as she lives in Winnipeg) and her little boy, DJ (who is almost a year old). It was nice to hang out with her again, just to kinda catch up and whatnot. plus DJ is amazingly well behaved which is good as I have a short temper with children. I slept in until noon, thereby avoiding any chance of a hangover. I went shopping (with Laura) and bought yet another black shirt. I own way too many black shirts. I got home and Rich (mention somewhere below) had forwarded me another great site. It's a response to US Ambassador Paul Cellucci's comments on Canada's policy with respect to Iraq. It was printed in the Halifax Herald and is wonderful, wonderful wonderful. Read it for yourself. Now I'm to go to Ming to have a martini or two for my friend's birthday. Life is good. posted by kim | 7:30 p.m.| (0) comments Thursday, April 10, 2003 went and saw tornado magnet with my mother tonight. it was a (very) late birthday present for her, and along with dinner at vietnam, we were treated to an evening of wonderful performace courtesy of one yellow rabbit. It was a great play, my mother laughed her ass off. It is done by a man in drag, with the purpose of distilling "trailerhomeaphobia" in mind. One-man act and absolutely wonderful. If you get a chance before it's over GO! If not, I'm sure oyr will have another well underpriced impressive play for you all to go see. That is all. Aside from that all I've been up to lately is delving into the world of Swiss architects and the same ol' German hip hop. It'll be over in 2 weeks. yay. then maybe I'll have something exciting to post about. Anyhow, I should go to bed, I have 9 am class and an evening of debauchery at the den planned (yes the link just goes to the evil su, the people who "own" the den.. you'll have to follow the links cuz they make their page evil and hard to link to other things. The su seems to do alot of evil things). posted by kim | 1:24 a.m.| (0) comments Monday, April 07, 2003 I stumbled upon something really cool that you all need on your desktop while I was researching today. It's this little dancer that dances to your music files on your desktop in the bottom corner. tres cool. go to mp3dancer.com to check it out. I currently have two figures tangoing to dj tommekk. earlier it was some bar star dancing to nena. it's so cool.. in other happy news I finally discovered the 24 hour iga today. it made me happy. ok back to watching the dancers. you need this. I'm tempted to pay the 14.95 us so I can download all of the dancers. posted by kim | 2:56 a.m.| (0) comments Sunday, April 06, 2003 I was forwared this site in an email from my friend Rich. It shows some pictures of the death and destruction caused by the war.. I'll just quote Rich's email for more description: "The link below goes to pics which are mainly composed from reuters, Al-Jazeera, BBC and Arab News about the current war in Iraq (they were put online by Robert Fisk). They remind us that there is a war, that people are dieing and that they are doing so in very gruesome and horrible ways (be warned, some of these pictures are extremely disturbing and graphic- there are 220 of them in total). Lets hope that this war ends a quickly as possible, that Saddam's regime is toppled sooner than later and that these images don't become a regular occurance for months to come..." what we're not seeing on newsnet and cnn posted by kim | 3:03 p.m.| (0) comments Friday, April 04, 2003 ok, I should post. especially because Duncan said I should in my guestbook, even though I bitched about his employer in an earlier post. But, honestly, I have nothing to post about. I have chained myself to my computer (where I am listening to dj shadow and designing a poster presentation on german hip hop if anyone really cares. You see I have to get this poster presentation done by monday, so I'd really like to get it done now so I don't have to worry about it and can have a fun weekend. But I really don't feel like doing it.. last night kb and I sat in her living room with a pitcher of vodka paralyzer and watched survivor. it was good, I needed to sit around drinking and watching trashy tv. I recommend it to anyone. but now I feel guilty and must get work done. I have this new found addiction to qr 77, our local talk radio station. it gets me nice and angry in the morning, ready to face the day with that scowl and bitter edge that many have grown to love. Rutherford, the guy that does the 4 hour long morning show (how they can manage to get 20 hours a week of dumb people calling in I will never understand), had this guy call in yesterday morning while I was driving to school. He made me nice and angry. He was all concerned because he was about to move to virginia to get married and he didn't think he would be able to get his visa for the US because of the canadian government's stance on iraq. so he goes on to say how he was talking to his wife-to-be's boss, who, incidentaly, was considering expanding his business to Canada, but has decided that he won't because he can't understand why we elect such stupid people, or something along those lines. My only response was that at least we can figure out how to fill out the ballot to elect these stupid people, unlike in other unnamed democracies where the guy that technically lost the election gets to be president. Plus, isn't that what democracy's all about, electing stupid people to be in charge? Representing the general population? OK, I guess I'm America bashing here and I don't mean to, there's lots of smart Americans. But still.. this comment got me all riled, but then again, that's why I listen to talk radio, I guess. On another note, I managed to catch some Dr. Laura last night while driving. Lucky me. Dr. Laura doens't seem to understand the concept of the double day. It makes me angry. I'll stop there, as I could go on about Dr. Laura for a while, and this is becoming a really long post. posted by kim | 3:42 p.m.| (0) comments Thursday, April 03, 2003 ok kids, I know you're visiting. post in the guestbook so I know how lame/cool you think I am (and who the hell you are).. I gotta rush this post in before murder she wrote starts. you see, I have this late night tv addiction. it all started with law and order, but now it's murder she wrote. what can you do? there was a brilliant one the other day where Jessica made fun of the fact that murders always happened around her and called herself the angel of death or something. ok I'm a geek. in other news faustival is happening right now and I've been volunteering in it in some capacity. it's all the excitement in the german department and means that some of my classes have been cancelled this week, giving me more time in theory to catch up on my reading. there's also been some interesting people in town for it as well. I was speaking with two women from Israel yesterday about the war in Iraq, and it was very interesting to hear things from their view point, about how they are to carry gas masks with them everywhere, but are very skeptical about how useful they were. It's impossible to imagine, we here in calgary worry about snow days cancelling classes, they worry about bombs. I can't imagine it. One of them was a Swiss citizen who chose, at the age of 18 (some odd 15 years ago I would reckon) to live there, and has made it her home. I was facinated. Anyhow, murder she wrote has begun. posted by kim | 2:07 a.m.| (0) comments |
