is it a bad thing when a coworker tells you she stood up for you when people were talking about you behind your back? Especially when you didn't know (or care to know) that they were, and when you heard what they were saying were pissed cuz it's lies, all lies. I really need a new job.

As you all may or may not know I have found myself sitting on the Canadian board of Students for a Free Tibet. The board currently consists of 8 people from across Canada, all with the shared goal of improving life for Tibetan people in Tibet. For more information about Students for a Free Tibet please go to www.studentsforafreetibet.org. Anyhow, the Board has a goal of raising $7,000 by April. This $7,000 has been earmarked to hire one part-time staff member to co-ordinate the work of SFT Canada, something that is currently being done by members of the board and could be done much more efficently by a staff member. As well, both the money and the staffer will help with our short term (pre-2007) goals, including an SFT Canada website (it exists but needs major improvement), an e-newsletter (available to members, I'll get to this), resource development, a possible tour of "what remains of us" (facinating film that briefly toured Canada last year), among other things. As a board member, I am responsible for raising at least $500. I have until March 21st to do this. I've currently donated $100 of my own, but would really like to ask you all for some help.

So, in the spirit of a CJSW funding drive, I've added some incentives.

-a $35 donation will get you a SFT Canada membership. This will not only get you into the cool posse, it will also allow you to receive the e-newsletter (mentioned above) and other updates on SFTs activities worldwide (if you're a student this membership is only $25).
-a $25 donation will get you an exclusive CD burned by me. It'll be personally done for you. I may even make you a pretty cover and what not if I can ever get my printer working. And that's less money than I've spent on some CDs that really sucked ass. This one won't suck, I promise.
-a $50 donation will get you a handmade handbag - by me! I know this is a shock to all. I will figure out how to sew and everything. I've done it before, don't worry. It'll be made personally for you too, so you can feel special and tell people it was made by a "local designer" - trust me, that gets you major street cred. No promises on quality, but I did give up hand stitching in favour of using a sewing machine.

-please note, I also offer a bundle rate. like, say you want the membership and CD: that'll be $55. Or the handbag and membership? $80, my friend. I'll even do the CD and handbag for $65. That's a steal.

Now, I realise this is short notice. you can always pledge now, pay later. but I'll keep your incentive until I get your money - and you get one month before I hassle you. Feel free to circulate this around to your friends. As well, donations of items or time are appreciated - please let me know if you have anything in mind.

Thanks all, take care, let me know if you have any questions,
Kim
