my city is still breathing back in the saddle |
Thursday, April 14, 2005 for most of my working life I have been employed at small businesses. With the exception of my first job I have held positions where I have personal contact with the owner of the company I work for. I recently "sold out" and took a job with a fairly large Canadian company. By "selling out" and working for a company where I don't know the owner (or stockholders) I have gained company benefits, respect in the workplace and a touch more money. I also now get paid breaks, health care, training (imagine that) and the chance to advance and change careers within the company. And labour laws are respected (possibly something to do with the union, who knows). I have had none of those things in my previous positions. I also no longer have to deal with an abusive company owner. Yes, I only have a week of experience to talk about, but, seriously, not having to listen to my employer stomping around the office like a 2 year old is already a major step up. posted by kim | 4:34 p.m.| (0) comments Monday, April 04, 2005 I think March should be known as employment month. I got a new job (still haven't started, but have the job). Trite got a new job. Three of my friends found new jobs. There must be something about the March employment market that is hot hot hot. Saw Joel Plaskett at the Ironwood last night. rawkin, in all the good ways. Currently listening to Feist. y'all should check her out. apparently she's an (ex)calgarian. although maybe just rumor. apparently she just won two junos so you'll be hearing more of her, I am sure. posted by kim | 12:37 a.m.| (0) comments |
