Banana Lotae (L) and Strawberry Lopae (R) - collectively known as "Fruit Salad"
These kids are the future headliners of the Calgary Folkfest, where I spent the day today.  They were by far the highlight.  They were roaming around, basically busking.  They told us they'd entertain us for a donation.  or none.  they were sooo amusing.  I gave them $7 so they could both get lemonade after a good half hour of entertainment including plays, songs, the chicken dance and the moonwalk, among other things.  damn were they funny.  They had apparently met the day before and were hanging out ever since.  they had stage names and a target audience and everything (I quote Strawberry: "You (people between the ages of 20-27) have the highest demand for our artform".  and this from a 10 year old).  watch for them coming to a folkfest near you!!

I was driving down 11th Ave SW this afternoon around 4:40 after a lovely afternoon on the patio at the ship and anchor and thought to myself "I really love this city"

..  maybe I'll stick around for another year.

I think the time is wrong here, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it.
one last post before I go to bed (as it is really 2 am, I must still have this on austrian time)..
I was polled today (I'm a geek when it comes to poli polls - I dream of nothing more than working for ipsos-reid) regarding the new debt free alberta.  the last question was "do you trust ralph klein?"   Sadly, the young man polling me was able to answer for me before I got a chance to - maybe because I told him I was leaving the province for political exile in manitoba.

is it just me or is "alt-country" the most useless label for music ever.  I mean I can't stand most traditional country (or I guess "pop-country") but music from bands like wilco and the jayhawks and neko case (with whom I can at least kinda see the country thing) has been rocking my world as of late.  maybe I've been in calgary too long.  or maybe it's just because I'm canadian, and as we learnt in MUHL 311 or whatever number history of canadian rock was, rock in canada has country roots, unlike rock in the us, which has blues roots.  the end.
on a barely related note, some of you may remember me ranting about a year back about how much I hate those sleeves they put on cds (I had just bought wilco's "yankee hotel foxtrot" which has said sleeve - wilco being the common thread here - were I not so lazy I'd link the post, maybe one of you will be nice and do it in the comments for me - but I digress).  anyhow, I finally figured out one positive reason for having them.  As you may know, the new beastie boys cd, to the 5 boroughs, has one on it, and it seems to be due to the title of song 7, which is called "Hey F*#k you" (or something to that effect) on the sleeve, but "hey fuck you" on the cover.  this use was not to be found on the wilco cd.

I think I am turning into a 15 year old girl.
you see, 2 days ago, the 2 15 yearolds I get to boss around both at the workplace and at home (as I find myself being some sort of den mother to them as well) arrived.   lucky me.  now I have to share the satellite tv and can't watch queer as folk at 2 am.  and I was just getting back into it, after a year hiatus.  anyhow.  so I come home from work on monday to find an eminem poster on my living room wall and christina agularia (screw the spelling) playing on my stero, with the shins cd I so nicely stole from my darling little brother sitting on the counter.  today I waited 45 min to get into the bathroom after my workout, and there's only one 15 year old right now.  They're only here a month but I think it could get interesting.  they're from quebec (and seem really nice, at least) and seem to be exotic creatures for the boys in town.  and I'm expected to tell them to be home at midnight.  I am so made to be a bad mother.

so I've been slacking. but then my life consists of watching satellite, scooping ice cream, crashing family reunions and driving around rural Alberta, all the while having the voice of panic whispering in my ear, saying "you're going to have to find a real job soon, Kim". so ya, nothing to post about, save anxiety and how much I love HWY 533 near Nanton. damn is it pretty. and fun. and time saving.
